Start the fight at range. Icy Veins’ leveling note for the first few levels is to maximize Auto Shots before the target reaches you, then switch to melee and Raptor Strike. Mobalytics likewise describes sitting back and shooting, then finishing with Raptor Strike if something reaches you.

Official class identity still includes a dead zone inside 8 yards where ranged abilities are unavailable. Plan the last few yards as a melee finish, not as more Auto Shot.

Movement between Auto Shots

Auto Shot preparation is the time the hunter has to stand still before the shot fires. The intended time is 0.5 seconds. The beta briefly allowed a shorter preparation; on 23 September 2026 Blizzard called that a bug and said a fix was incoming. This page does not claim that announced fix has shipped. The weapon swing interval is a separate clock. Do not treat Classic swing tables as Forever facts.

Use the gap after a shot to step, then stand for the next one. The Auto Shot timing page covers why a timer helps. A Forever release of WeaponSwingTimer SixxFix is listed on the addons page; CFH has not tested it in-game.

Finishing enemies that reach melee

When the mob closes, stop pretending you still have a bow line. Icy Veins and Mobalytics both send you to melee plus Raptor Strike. Mobalytics also names Mongoose Bite if the target still has a lot of health. Those are their recommendations. CFH has not timed melee finishers on the current build.

CFH player observation — needs repeat testing

Our tester reports that Plainsrunning persists when entering combat and loses stacks or deactivates when hit, which made early kiting easier. Combat by itself did not clear the stacks. The client build was not recorded with that note. Exact hit types are not confirmed. This site does not claim every damage type behaves the same way.

CFH observationCrit Forever Happens

Official racial text only says Plainsrunning grants increased movement speed the longer you stay moving. Icy Veins recommends Tauren for Hunter because of Plainsrunning and describes stutter-stepping Auto Shot from range at level 1. That is Impakt’s recommendation, not a CFH racial ranking, and it is not evidence for other races.
